SSDs now standard on all network client PCs
From Monday 7th September 2015, all PCs ordered from us for use on an Active Directory network (including legacy NT domains) will automatically be supplied with a 128GB SSD in place of the usual 500GB hard drive.
We have recently been evaluating a range of SSDs from Sandisk, Kingston and Samsung, and have found that an SSD-equipped PC can boot to the login screen in under 10 seconds. An identical spec PC with a conventional hard drive takes nearly a minute.
The apparent drawback with SSDs (smaller capacity compared with a traditional hard drive) is not an issue with network clients. All data is stored on the server, therefore the local disk only has to hold the operating system and any applications used.
PCs fitted with SSDs are significantly faster and more responsive.
Customers ordering for stand-alone use (where the PC will not be connected to a domain with a server) will continue to receive a conventional hard drive. The extra storage capacity is required where the PC is not linked to a server. We can however fit a SSD in addition to the conventional hard drive for an additional cost.
