Squirrel Solutions goes 64-bit
Any orders placed for PCs or servers after today's date will now automatically be supplied with a 64-bit AMD processor.
AMD have recently launched the Athlon X2 and Sempron 64 series. These new CPUs are derived from the Opteron processor, which we have been using for high-end servers for the last 3 years. This 64-bit computing power is now available in AMD's affordable range of CPUs. All 64-bit servers will be supplied with 64-bit unix as standard.
PC systems can now be supplied with either 32 or 64-bit versions of Windows XP Professional, although as 64-bit technology is so new, there may be some compatibility issues with 64-bit Windows. However, even if you choose to retain 32-bit Windows, you will still benefit from the massive performance gains provided by AMD's 64-bit core.
Prices for our systems have not changed. A 64-bit RAID server with 250GB of storage is now £995 including delivery, installation and 90 days support. A 64-bit Windows XP Professional PC (with Microsoft Office 2003) is still available for the same price of £695, including delivery, installation, configuration and 90 days support. The cost of a PC system remains the same regardless of whether you specify a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.
