Broadband activation
BT Wholesale have today released a list of 24 exchanges that are to be broadband enabled, including Wotton-Under-Edge.
The Wotton exchange will now be activated on the 23rd July 2003. All the major ISPs are now accepting pre-orders.
“This is the best news we've had all year,” says Glenn Richards of Squirrel Solutions, one of the key members of the Broadband for Wotton campaign. “It opens up the possibility of true e-commerce in Wotton, and brings us into the 21st century.”
“Previously anyone in Wotton wanting to get online either had to put up with slow unreliable dialup connections, or pay through the nose for unmetered ISDN at around £45/month for a true unmetered service. Now with companies like Eclipse, who offer a fast, reliable and most importantly always-on connection for just over £20/month, businesses in the town can really get their teeth into online marketing, and save money as well.”
One of the biggest benefits of broadband is that it provides the user with an always-on Internet connection without tying up the phone line, and at a fixed cost.
